Abstract

Crimes of domestic violence are one of the most serious human rights violations that occur in the family circle. It has become the subject of attention of the international community, and on this basis, a number of conventions and documents have been adopted that recognize domestic violence as a crime and establish international standards to combat it. One of the most important international documents related to domestic violence is the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). This convention recognizes domestic violence as a form of discrimination against women and calls on state parties to take all necessary measures to combat this phenomenon. In addition, the Convention on the Rights of the Child also recognizes children who are victims of domestic violence and calls on States Parties to provide them with appropriate protection and assistance. Of course, the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, which criminalizes, protects victims and prevents violence against women and girls, should be mentioned. International law also recognizes domestic violence as a crime against humanity when it occurs as part of a systematic or widespread attack against a civilian population. This means that domestic violence can be recognized as a crime against humanity if it is widespread and its aim is systematic and massive violence against women and children. Preventing domestic violence is an important issue that affects the safety and well-being of millions of people around the world. There are various methods to combat this phenomenon, but prevention is the most effective way to reduce the number of cases of domestic violence: have a dialogue with friends and relatives about domestic violence and how to prevent it; talk about the signs that may indicate domestic violence and what steps to take to help the victim; if you witness domestic violence, contact the local police or social services; report such cases, it can help save a person’s life and prevent further violence. They may need psychological counseling, medical care, or housing if their lives have been made unsafe. Preventing domestic violence is an important task for each of us. We can help reduce the number of cases of domestic violence by creating a safe environment, raising awareness of violence, and helping victims.
